Good Bye to a President

December 30th, 2006; was a clear and chilly night in DC.  Many locals, tourists and the great security forces in the District lined the streets around the National Mall to see the funeral procession of Gerald R. Ford.

This after-dark event, was done with much less a-do than the Reagan funeral.  Under cover of night, the motorcade, proceeded by that of the current VP, slowly made its way from Andrews Air Force Base, through Alexandria, VA, over the Memorial Bridge (which links Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall).  Then the procession stopped briefly at the WWII Memorial, and then down the National Mall to the steps of the Capitol.

While, I could see flag draped coffin; the digital camera, in the dark, did not do so well...

It was a somber event...
